NLCS - Game One Diary

I honestly thought that after the Phillies brought home the World Series trophy last year, I’d calm down just a little while watching these games. I was wrong. I’m still a total head case, only now I have an insatiable need for winning…again. To be honest, it’s really not too good for my health. But you know what, that’s exactly what makes this Phillies team so damn good. They have a desire, a need, an addiction even, to winning. And that is why, going into this series, I’m eerily calm.

After dismantling the Rockies in the clinching game of the NLDS, the Phillies were to have flown directly to Los Angeles in preparation for tonight’s National League Championship Series rematch against the Dodgers. And then… the Phils were bamboozled!

The Phillies' Reputation

Great New York Times article on the Phils.

“Everybody has a reputation,” Phillies infielder Greg Dobbs said in a recent interview. “It all comes from how you run down to first: do you hustle? Do you grind out hard at-bats? Are you locked in on defense? I think we have a pretty good reputation for doing all those things.” [NYT]

Still think a well-placed "No homo" would have been a good choice for Dobbs after the "Do you grind out hard at bats" comment.

Week 5: What Did We Learn?

The game -- regardless of a final score of 33-14 -- ended pretty much as we thought it would.  The birds were 13.5 point favorites and the Bucs were (and are) winless thus far this season.  Nevertheless, with every passing game we learn something more about the identity of this team and gain new insight into just how good they are.

What did we learn?: McNabb's health is not an issue, Jeremy Maclin lives, Michael Vick probably hates his life again, Westbrook kinda sucks now, Standard wildcat good / Fancy wildcat bad, Josh Johnson is better than his stats, Blitzing is the new black, and Kellen Winslow Jr is a fucking soldier!!
