Bye Bye B-West

Today the Philadelphia Eagles released running back Brian Westbrook. Let that soak in for a minute. Sucks, right?

While this was an expected move, since Westbrook was owed $7 million this year, it still hurts. B-West has given Eagles fans so much to cheer about during his eight-year tenure. More times than not, he was the most electric player on the field and could take it to the house at any point. I, for one, always took him for granted and it's going to be hard watching the Birds on Sunday without #36.

Westbrook finishes his Eagles career with 9,785 yards from scrimmage and 68 career touchdowns (which includes two punt returns). He'll finish second in franchise history to only Wilbert Montgomery in career rushing yards and behind only Harold Carmichael and Steve Van Buren in career touchdowns. He's also the Eagles third all-time leading receiver, with 426 career receptions. Not too shabby for a guy drafted in the third round out of Villanova.

You can't fault the Eagles thinking here, Westbrook has always had trouble staying healthy and he was barely on the field last year. With his knee and concussion problems, I'm not sure how much he has left in him. If he does continue to play, I hope he latches on with another team and finds some success this year. If not, I'll be proud that he'll retire as an Eagle. B-West, you will be missed.

Tear.
