Your Weekly Eagles Saga Catch-up

We here at TheWizWit have remained pretty quiet on a lot of the McNabb trade rumors and speculation. It seems like every day, you read a new article about the latest development, rumor, or bowel movement regarding the Eagles brass.

But I suppose we should comment on what the reports have been this week.

Here we go…

The One Where Richards and Carter Get Hammered At The Trade Deadline

Okay, they drink their faces off regularly as they troll Olde City.  That's certainly not news.  But the passing of the NHL trade deadline for a team surely looking to make themselves serious contenders is.

So what happened?  Nothing.  Really?!

I can't remember the last time a trade deadline passed the Flyers stayed completely quiet. While I'm not happy with this whatsoever, I really can't argue with what GM Paul Holmgren was dealing with.

Should I Laugh? No?...Yes? I Think...Yes!

This offseason I've had to listen to so many damn Mets fans go "man, once we get healthy, we'll be right there bro. You better watch out, the Amazin's are going come back strong this year! Jose Reyes baby! I'm a fucking guido!" it isn't funny. Mets fans suck and they honestly are the worst people on earth. So, after reading this news today, I just have to laugh.

Now, I would never wish injury or sickness upon anyone (except Rosie O' Donnell) but Mets fans make it so hard not to root for their team to fall apart. Plus, Jose Reyes is a total douchebag. So, without further ado:

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAHAHAFUCKYOUMETSFANSHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HAHAHAHAASSHOLESHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHISLEPTWITHYOURMOM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAYOURDADISGAYHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Ok, now I feel better. Fuck the Mets.

Go Phils.

Weaver Wins One For The Fullbacks

The Eagles and super-amazing fullback Leonard Weaver reached an agreement on a 3 year deal worth $11 million with $6.5 million guaranteed.  That effectively makes Weaver the highest paid player at his position.  And he should be.  No fullback meant more to their team that Weaver did last year.

This was an obvious move for the Birds as the signing was never a matter of 'if' but 'when'.  Fullbacks are a lost position in today's NFL and has always been the least glamorized "skill" position.  It's nice to see Weaver getting his.

It's even nicer not having to worry about some terrible, out of positon player being forced into the fullback role.  And the flame tattoos.  Can't forget about those.

TheWizWit Wallpaper Wednesday!

What was billed as an Olympics that nobody would watch actually ended up being pretty dern entertaining. The US took home the most medals ever. Ice skaters did a bunch of spins and shit. Shaun White did a bunch of spins and shit. The sex-crazed winter kids from around the world ended up putting on a solid show for us all.

The only downer? That guy died before the opening day The US hockey team couldn't pull off a second epic victory against the evil red syrup-suckers of Canada. While I'm sure we all feel a little bummed about the outcome, as Deadspin pointed out last week, things actually played out exactly as they should have. Not only was Canada the better team and the home team, but to beat their North American rivals in overtime of the gold medal game with a goal from their best player is just about as perfect an ending as any of those hosers could have hoped for.

So in the good-natured Olympic spirit, my girlfriend I created a tribute to Philly's foremost Canadian athlete. A man who single-handedly financially crippled an entire organization. A man who's relentless will to be mediocre has completely trumped any God-given physical gifts. A true Canadian who has bled red maple leaves since way back in 2007. A man who loves hockey so much that at a game he was once quoted as saying "I'm just watching the little ball, man."

Darren Sproles = Championship

Joe Banner, please go sign Darren Sproles.

When the Chargers annouced last week they were going to let Sproles test free agency, I was rather shocked. I mean, with LT finished, who the hell are the Chargers going to give the ball to this year? You had to assume they would keep Sproles, especially in an uncapped year (his tender would have cost them $7.5 million this year). (Yes, there is a chance they bring him back, but let's not worry about that here, ok?)

But, alas, the Chargers loss is the Eagles gain. While Sproles is certainly not an every down back (and I doubt there is an NFL team that sees him as one) he IS a dynamic weapon that would thrive in the Eagles offense. You're talking about a guy who had 45 receptions for 497 yards (11.0 avg.) and four touchdowns part-time player. He is incredible in the screen game and has the ability to score from any point on the field. Oh, and he's a pretty awesome kick returner too. You have to think that Andy Reid would break out the o-face thinking of all the ways to he could get Sproles the ball.

Listen, I know that Darren Sproles doesn't play linebacker or defensive end or safety and that those are the postions the Eagles really need help at. But with LeSean McCoy, Leonard Weaver (soon to be resigned) and Darren Sproles the Eagles would have a pretty dynamic, well-rounded group of RBs. Plus, I'd rather them spend some good money on a 26 year-old playmaking running back than a 30-year old defensive end who may or may not play hard.

Enjoy.
