Not only are the Phillies 1st in the NL East, but they are well on their way to the best start in franchise history.
But just as importantly - I don't think it's possible to understate the impact and awesomeness that is Roy 'Doc' Halladay.
Halladay is every bit the most celebrated acquisition in Philadelphia since Terrell Owens (minus all the spandex). He deserves to be lauded for his accomplishments, worth ethic, and dominance. He embodies everything the Philly fan stands for.
I'm not at all saying fans are taking him for granted, or even that he's under-appreciated. But as Halladay gets set to make his 5th start of the season in San Francisco tonight, I think it's as good a time as any to re-iterate just how phuckin filthy Roy Halladay is. Check out these stats:
- He is 4-0 with a 0.82 ERA in his first four starts. (Ironically IDENTICAL to Cliff Lee's first 4 starts with the Phillies.)
- Ranks in the top 3 in the majors in ERA, Wins, strikeouts, and innings pitched.
- Has only issued 3(!) walks in 2010.
- No pitcher in the league has thrown more complete games than Halladay's 51
This is a west coast game, so first pitch isn't till 10:15pm tonight. Don't be a baby. Stay up and watch. There's only 35 or so Halladay starts a year people.
Go Phils!
