Eagles 27, Redskins 17: What Did We Learn?

We also learned that Will Witherspoon is the damned truth, Trotter is for goal line only, Runningbacks are getting Wildcat plays, Donovan loves the dirt, Westbrook is Mr. Glass, Who needs first downs, and Vick looks cool as hell.

Will Witherspoon is the damned truth - What did I tell ya? That 86 overall Madden rating seems pretty nice about now, eh? Witherspoon finished the game with 8 tackles (6 solo), a sack, a forced fumble, a pass defensed, an INT, and a touchdown. Pretty nice game if you ask me. And just think, a year from now we'll (hopefully) have him and Stuart Bradley on the field at the same time.

Trotter is for goal line only - I feel like Andy is reading my mind sometimes. A blind man could see that Trotter wasn't quick enough to keep up with anyone last week, so the coaching staff has relegated the 3-term Eagle to goal-line duty. I'm sure he doesn't mind; it's better than sitting next to Howard Eskin for hours on end. Pays better, too.

Runningbacks are getting Wildcat plays - Thank God. As I mentioned yesterday, the Wildcat is effective for this team if you give the RBs and select WRs the chance to run it. We didn't have GREAT success with it this week, but it is certainly something Shady McCoy and Westbrook can improve upon and perfect before playoff time.

Donovan loves the dirt - McNabb certainly didn't have one of his stronger games, but he got out of Washington with a win and in that end that's all that matters. Many of his passes were short and in the dirt, which I'm sure prompted obese Eagles fans in the Deleware Valley to make loud noises that resemble words at their TV screens in disgust. Honestly, I don't mind McNabb turning the soil at Lincoln Financial Field from time to time. He purposefully throws low when defenders are in the area, thus preventing INTs. It's remarkably frustrating to watch, but it keeps us out of turnovers.

Westbrook is Mr. Glass - Brian Westbrook will find a way to get hurt one way or the other.  I don't mean to sound insensitive, and I completely understand that yesterdays concussion was not his fault, but 36 just seems to end up on the carpet or limping at some point in every game.  Shucks, just when he started to get some of his quickness back and we have the Giants coming to town.  As of this moment, his status for that game is uncertain

Who needs first downs? - We will, eventually. That game should have been a complete blowout and only the inability of the Eagles offense to sustain a drive kept it from being so. We can certainly hit on those big plays downfield, but at some point this team is going to have to prove it can perform a methodical drive. I'm positive they have it in them, it's just going to be a matter of execution. Additionally, the continued negligence of the running game is a major factor for this. We started the game off with two consecutive runs, and after that Andy seemed to have his fill.

Vick looks cool as hell - I wish I had a picture for this section but I don't. For a minute, I simply looked at the sidelines and saw Michael fucking Vick as our backup quarterback and smiled. I will make the concession that he's certainly not the player he once was, but it still brings a smirk to my face to know that there's a former Pro Bowl QB in the stable if shit were to hit the fan. Also, Mike just looks good in the dark green. He looks like a created QB in Madden (dark visor, really?)...I just wish we could bump his stats up so he doesn't get tackled in the backfield every time.

Bring on the Giants.
