'The Who' - Your Super Bowl Halftime Performer (for some reason)

Super Bowl XLIV's halftime performer has been announced. To no one's surprise, it's a bunch of old white guys again! Let's hear it for playing it safe!

So yeah, enjoy that.  I'll certainly be skipping that part of Super Bowl Sunday.

I'm not knocking The Who. They've been doing their thing for a long time and have made good music that is enjoyed by a great number of people. I just don't get why The Who was chosen. Was there no other act available that was more... um... relevant?

It never used to be like this. Until The Big Nip Slip of ‘04 happened, we always had young, energetic entertainers on the stage. It's sad that MTV has cost us performers we'd actually like to sit and watch. Instead we're stuck with 'safe' performances that only appeal to a generation before ours.

The Who? Bruce Springsteen? Tom Petty? Rolling Stones? Paul McCartney?  None of them are bad artists by any means (well excpet Springsteen), but their time in the spotlight has surely past. When you make an announcement about the Super Bowl Halftime show, it really shouldn’t be met with groans and jokes by late night talk show hosts.

What about some of the following artists? They'd likely cause more of a buzz than what we've been getting, right?  (Feel free to chime in with any others you'd like to see).

Jay-Z, Beyonce, Lady Gaga, Daughtry, Black Eyed Peas, Kanye, Kings of Leon, Green Day.... uh.. Taylor Swift.**

Still a little too edgy and would still prefer to go with an 'oldy-but-goody'?  Why the hell hasn’t Bon Jovi headlined the Super Bowl Halftime extravaganza yet??

Sigh.  I just don't get it.  I don't know what you do at your Super Bowl parties, but it looks like it'll be another year of my closest friends scurrying to another room to hook up the Nintendo to get in a couple games of Tecmo Super Bowl.

**Disclaimer: These artists are not all necessarily enjoyed by the writer. (I cannot stand Taylor Swift…or Green Day for that matter). The artists listed simply make sense based off the general public’s view of current pop-culture performers.
