Quit Sobbing Into Your Cheesesteak...

In the aftermath of the now annual Philadelphia Eagles disappointment, we understand that you are all feeling a little helpless, shitty, and cheated...again.

Well buck up...bucko...a real winner is right around the corner. Here are a few things you might've missed during the Birds' fruitless Super Bowl quest over the past two weeks.

Brett Myers becomes a Houston Astro

Myers signed a 1 year deal in 2010 for $3.1 million with an $8 million mutual option/$2 million buyout for 2011. Back here in Philly, we'll always remember Brett for 3 things:

1) Beating his wife in the streets of Boston after she asked for it.
2) Being one hell of a practical joker
3) Having the most memorable at-bat a Phillies pitcher has had - ever.

I Knew Spam Wasn't Invented To Be Consumed

Okay so this actually happened back in July, but I happened to pass by it on the interweb and thought I'd show it to you. The Phillies minor league squad in Reading held their 2nd Annual Spam Carving Competition. Believe it or not, the below image did not win. Some guy who made a Spam sculpture of his living room actually took first place. I'm not making this up. Go figure.

Phillies Interested In Ben Sheets? or Chien-Ming Wang? or someone no one has mentioned?

The latest on the rumor mill over the past couple weeks is that the Phils could be interested in bringing in either Sheets or Wang to solidify the back-end of the rotation (likely 5th starter Jamie Moyer's status is uncertain for the start of the season due to recent surgery). I for one would love to see Sheets as a Phillie - but only at a reasonable price that would come in the form of a 1 year "team friendly" incentive-laden deal. Sheets, who hasn’t thrown at least 200 innings since 2004, has an asking price way higher than the Phils are willing to go. Wang -- the former Yankee who suffered through an injury plagued 2009 and looked downright awful -- is someone who would just sadden and frustrate me as a Phillie. He just doesn’t fit on this team. Philliesnation.com laid out a few other possible FA pitching possibilities as well that you can check out. (For the record, I doubt they sign another starter. They will go into the season with Moyer, Kyle Kendrick, and Antonio Bastardo battling it out for the 5th spot. If it blows up in their face, we might see a mid-season acquisition of a middle-of-the-road starter).

And in case you missed it...

Our faithful skipper turned 66

Happy belated Charlie!
