Here's a Look at Your Newest Phillie

The Phillies drafted left-handed pitcher Jesse Biddle out of Germantown Friends High School with the 27th overall selection of the MLB Draft.

And with that, yet another teenager becomes a millionaire while I sit here bitter and poor.

Biddle went 9-2 with a 1.06 ERA and 140 strikeouts in less than 60 innings of work during his senior high school season. Not too shabby.

Now, unless you’re name is Bryce Harper, I am nowhere near knowledgeable enough to add any insight on any of the high school kids picked in this draft. The folks over at phuturephillies.com have that covered for you. They do an awesome job of covering not only incoming prospects but everyone in the organization. They're a huge reason while I'm so familiar with the Phillies farm system as a whole.

Bonus - the Phils brass has even compared Biddle quite favorable to Clayton Kershaw of the Dodgers. If that happens, we'll all be very happy a few years down the line.

In other news, the Phillies drafted an outfielder by the name of Eldmire Gauntlett. How badass is that name? I know nothing about him, but if he doesn't turn out to be a ding-dong blasting speed demon on the bases, I'll be surprised. With a name like Gauntlett, I'm hereby thrusting unrealistic expectations upon him.

  1. FUTURE NEWS: Phillies LF Eldmire Gauntlett arrested after police raid a "sex dungeon" in the former all-star's basement. Said one of his victims: "He wouldn't stop screaming at us. 'Prepare for the Gauntlett! You'll never make it through the Gauntlett!' It was horrifying."

  3. If Biddle is anything like Kershaw, I'm sure we will be happy. Just ask Ubaldo Jimenez how that lone loss this year feels.
