As an African American, I know there's only one month a year that the rest of the country is forced to pay attention to my heritage. Well, the parts of my heritage that don't include scoring touchdowns and stand-up comedy. Yeah, it's the shortest month of the year. And the only one with an awkward "r" in the middle of it. And I know it's ridiculous to try to capture hundreds of years of history into
McDonald's radio ads and
crayon-book Martin Luther King, Jr. colorings by elementary school kids. But it's all we got. And in the spirit of Black History Month, I'd like to dedicate this week's wallpaper to the Philadelphia Phillies.
Why the Phillies? Well, they're pretty much the only team in the city with a legitimate chance at winning a championship. Also, in case you haven't noticed, the Phils have two all-star black players in a Major League that saw its percentage of blacks decline from 19% in 1995 to only 8% in 2007. Kudos to the team for winning a World Series and two pennants with Black Americans instead of foreigners.
So in that spirit (and same nonsensical spirit we've shown
so far), I present:
